Fancy a game of skill and guile? Come and join us for a relaxed game of chess. We do not have a league, we just play with whoever walks in. Members have a broad spectrum of skill levels, including beginner.

The Chess group meet at Copeland Every Monday (excluding Bank Holidays) from 1:30 to 3:30.

*** However, from Monday the 26th October, we will move to the South Bretton Family and Community Centre off Tyesdale. PE3 9XZ. This is due to Copeland Community Centre Closing permanently

It will still be Monday Afternoon but the timing will now be 1:00 to 2:45 due to the room being used by others.

If you are not already a member of the Chess Group, we need you to tell us you want to come and try the group, inorder for us to let you in.***

We do not generally teach chess, but this is a group of very mixed abilities and gender. If you know the basics, the more experienced players will sometimes be heard saying their opponent “Are you sure that is what you want to do?”

No one is too serious. If you have ever played Chess, you know that one wrong move can spell disaster. In this company, the chances are that your opponent will make a miss judged move the very next go so usually evens out. We play just for fun and keep the grey cells active.
